 Solomon Island Eclectus
(Eclectus roratus solomensis)

Sorry, we no longer breed birds.

approx. size: 12-13 in/32cm native to: Solomon Islands available season: yesr round
min. cage size: 30" x 30" x 30" talking ability: very good

The lovely Solomon Island Eclectus is a bit smaller than the Vosmaeri Eclectus. As with
other Eclectus species, the male is green and the female is red and blue. Females have
a ring of blue feathers circling the eyes. There is no yellow in the tail of females (as
there is on Vosmaeri Eclectus). Male Solomon Island Eclectus tend to be a darker shade
of green than male Vosmaeri Eclectus.

Eclectus should be fed a diet high in vegetables, fruits, and grains. The brilliant plumage colors of Eclectus reflect the diet they are fed. Vegetables such as beet root, carrot, squashes, sweet potatoes, yams, broccoli, kale, and chard etc. are full of natural carotenes and are recommended for Eclectus. We do not recommend processed food (i.e. pelleted diet) for Eclectus parrots. PLEASE read this
article regarding the possible consequences of feeding processed food to Eclectus:
Toe Tapping from the Combined Perspectives of an
Eclectus Owner and an Avian Veterinarian.

Some people think the Solomon Island is mellower in personality than other Eclectus species.
Personally, I do not see any major difference in personality between Eclectus subpecies.
