Birds can molt their feather at any time of the year, but most molt their feathers in late summer/fall. You might notice little pin-feathers on your bird, such as the ones shown at left on our pet Hahn's Macaw, Globo. These are hard to reach for the bird and apparently are itchy. You can help you bird by gently preening these dry sheaths off the feathers, such as Dave is doing at right. Make sure there is no longer any blood in the pin-feathers before preening and don't force the bird if it does not care for the preening help.
