This breeding
pair of Hahn's macaws (Ara n. nobilis) was raised at our ranch,
Rancho Papagallo, in 1993 and first produced fertile eggs in
1996. We are delighted to have our own young pairs producing
for us!
Many of our domestic,
hand-fed breeding birds are well socialized to humans and carry
on conversations with their keepers. Often domestic breeders
are steadier in the nest than wild-caught birds. This is a young
female Jardine Parrot (Poicephalus gulielmi).
Although
individuals can be quite personable in the aviary, the Yellow-Faced
Amazon (Amazona xanthops) is quite rare in captivity
and should be carefully managed in breeding programs. This specie
learns to talk quite well and behaves more
like a Pionus than an Amazon.
This interesting
species, the Slender-Billed Conure (Enicognathus leptorhynchus)
is native to Chile. It is not a prolific breeder in captivity.
